The Brazilian R
Unit 1 — Pronunciation
The letter R is the sound that most identifies someone as a non-native speaker. Strong R (start of word or 'rr'): Guttural, like clearing your throat. Think of Rio — the R sounds like 'hh'.
Fala como brasileiro!
Native Expression
In informal speech, Brazilians almost always DROP the final -r! 'Falar' becomes 'fala', 'comer' becomes 'come'. This is key to sounding natural.
Ser vs. Estar
Unit 4 — Grammar
Both mean 'to be' but they're not interchangeable. 'Ser' = permanent qualities. 'Estar' = temporary states. 'Eu sou brasileiro' (I am Brazilian) vs 'Eu estou feliz' (I am happy).
